Although Chelsea was born in the US and grows up in English speaking environment, she is really interested in studying Chinese. Chelsea attempted to learn speaking Chinese after her first visit to our family in China as she was five years old. Before that, she only spoke English. A few years later, people thought Chelsea just came from China while she was talking in Chinese. Especially after Chelsea attended to Huaxia Chinese School at Great Valley to study Chinese, her listening comprehension, reading and writing skills have progressed quite significantly. Her achievements are attributed to her curiosity and challenging spirit, to a wonderful studying Chinese environment provided by the school, and to an outstanding teacher, Zhang Ying. Chelsea also always actively participated in school activities and made various achievements.

Hi, I’m Yuge Xiao (肖雨格). I am 14 years old and will be starting my freshmen year at Conestoga High School in Sept 2011. I was born in Singapore but moved to the United States when I was 8. My hobbies include reading, singing, pin-collecting, tae-kwon-do, and track & field. I started tae-kwon-do when I was 5 and currently hold a black-belt. I first got interested in track & field when all my friends signed up for the track team in 7th grade. Wanting to get involved in a school sport, I signed up as well and got hooked. My favorite events in track & field are the 100m, the 400m, long jump, and shot put. Track and tae-kwon-do have taught me to keep on trying, no matter how hard things get, because that’s the only way I’ll ever succeed.

Hi, I am Michael Yang, one of Hua Xia Chinese School’s four selected athletes. I am an 11th grader at Great Valley High School and a very avid track runner. I have attended Hua Xia for two years now attending the SAT classes. At school, I am the president of my school’s Future Business Leaders of America Club and will hopefully be a captain of my school’s track team. In track, I mainly run the 400 meter dash, and have a personal record of 52 seconds in the event. I also run the 200 meter dash and have a personal record at 24.5 seconds in that event. This year, I hope to run on my 400 meter relay team and make states or even nationals. I have had a great time at Hua Xia Chinese School these past two years and intend to attend for two more years, especially the annual track meets.
